The future of mobile scrap processing
In the world of metal recycling, everything revolves around efficiency, capacity, and reliability. But as machines become more powerful, the importance of safety continues to grow. With the introduction of the HIRU, TAURUS is setting a new standard in the industry. This track-mounted mobile shear baler combines maximum productivity with a revolutionary approach to safety.
If the scrap doesn’t go to the shear, the shear goes to the scrap.
Mobile shear balers were developed based on a simple principle: processing scrap directly where it is located. Thanks to its tracked undercarriage, the HIRU can move independently around the site and process material on location. This significantly increases operational flexibility and reduces unnecessary material handling and transportation.
However, mobility also brings challenges. A track-mounted shear baler is not an ordinary machine, but an installation that operates with enormous forces, heavy masses, and high energy levels. Safety should therefore never depend on human error or interpretation.

Safety integrated into the design
Where traditional mobile machines mainly rely on procedures and operator behavior, TAURUS has taken a fundamentally different approach in the development of the HIRU: integrating safety directly into the machine itself.
The HIRU was developed in accordance with the principles of the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, in which risks are eliminated at the source as much as possible through engineering and design.
ARD-technology
The innovative ARD technology physically and precisely defines the machine’s operating position. As a result, the driving direction, turning radius, and maneuvering area become clearly visible and predictable. The safety of the working environment no longer depends on the operator’s position, but on a predefined and controlled work zone.
DAS-technology
The DAS system (Drive Assistance Sensor) forms a second safety layer. This intelligent system continuously monitors the area around the machine and detects people, obstacles, and other potential hazards. When a risk situation is identified, the system automatically intervenes by reducing speed or bringing the machine to a complete stop. In this way, the danger zone is permanently monitored and clearly defined.
More than a shear baler
The combination of ARD and DAS makes the HIRU much more than a mobile shear baler. It is an advanced safety system in which risks are structurally controlled and operational uncertainties are eliminated.
For operators, this means not only a safer working environment, but also reduced liability, greater operational reliability, and an installation that complies with the strictest safety standards.
Powerful performance
In addition to safety, the HIRU also offers the performance you would naturally expect from a TAURUS machine:
- Cutting force up to 1,300 tons
- Clamping force up to 220 tons
- Main compression cylinder up to 180 tons
- Box length up to 7,200 mm
- Diesel powered
- Self-propelled on tracks
An investment in the future
At TAURUS, the efficiency of an installation is measured not only in tonnes per hour, but also in the peace of mind of the people who operate it. The HIRU proves the maximum productivity and maximum safety can go hand in hand.
With the HIRU, you are not only investing in a powerful mobile shear baler, but also in a safer, more modern, and future-oriented way of scrap processing.
